WTF Wednesday: Control is an Illusion. Or Is It?
Please allow me to geek out for a few minutes (and show my age). If you’re a child of the 70s who grew up watching the Star Wars movies in theaters (many, many times, in my case), or even if you’re just a major fan of the franchise (me, me), you might remember the scene in The Return of the Jedi when, in slow motion, the Super Star Destroyer Executor faces its demise. (If you need a refresher or just want to watch for the first time, here’s a link: The Destruction of the Executor).
This is how I see the U.S. right now. Except it’s not in slow motion—it feels more like a fast-paced video game (Centipede or Galaga, anyone?) where things are coming at us from all angles and we can’t keep up.
So, it’s imperative to take a moment to ask ourselves: What DO we have control over?
Is there anything you can do that would flip the Star Wars script, making the scene about trump, musk, and their deranged cronies into the one where they’re facing their downfall? Seriously, what’s one small thing you can do? Join boycott efforts or peaceful protests. Contact your congresspeople. Get involved with groups that are actually making a difference. Where can you stretch yourself? Because action kills anxiety.
On top of coaching women on their health and wellness journeys, I’ve spent the last few years building communities of women (and a few good men 😉) who are ready to engage and lift each other up. Groups that stand in solidarity and help each other play bigger. That’s one way I feel comfortable (or at least just outside my comfort zone) contributing.
And while we’re on the subject of control, what do you need—and what’s in your control—that could help you feel some sense of stability? Is it a breather from the news? A brownie or cupcake? A long walk? Dinner with good friends? You can't be all things to all people, so figure out where and with whom you want to spend your time.
Your turn: I’m sure we could all use some fresh ideas, so share with us: What actions or small practices help you feel grounded, especially in tough times?
P.S. I’ve decided to try out a WTF Wednesday series. This one’s a bit longer, so I’m starting with a post, but I’m still figuring out if it’ll be notes or posts going forward. I’d love to know what you think about the idea, so feel free to chime in! 🙏❤️
Call to Action:
What’s in your control today? Share your thoughts, ideas, and actions with us-we could all use some new inspiration for finding balance in this chaotic world.

What’s in my control today? My mindset. What I let in and what I release. Who I open up to. How I move through the moments that don’t go as planned. How I soften into the ones that do.
And honestly? The best part of my day is knowing I’ve got two cats and two dogs whose only job is to be near me. No performance. No pressure. Just presence. They remind me: Balance isn’t found. It’s felt.
I am going down the ‘Dallas’ route and pretend it’s all a dream! It’s time to wake up Bobby (was it Bobby? So long ago now 🤦🏼♀️)
Apologies if you are young and have no idea what I am talking about 😂
